As the digital editor for Heacock Classic, I get to travel to great tracks, visit world-class Concours events, and create the media we present to our clients and friends in the industry. Well, along with all that fun, I get to take the blame for a mistake we made – I got the dates for the SAAC 40th all wrong. Folks, we’ll all get to enjoy the fun at Pocono Raceway August 20 – 23. Here’s what happened:
SAAC announced their dates at Pocono before learning about the Pocono IndyCar 500 race already happening on the Sunday the 23rd. After discussions with Tony Parella and the SVRA team, everyone agreed to join forces for a very unique car-guy weekend and they changed their dates. Well, my calendar got updated by Jon at the SVRA, but I failed to realize that SAAC was joining us, creating one killer vintage weekend for everyone. My humble apologies to our friends at SAAC, and I’ll try to make amends. Maybe I can buy you a beverage at the Marshall Tucker concert Saturday evening, or a cup of coffee at the SVRA Car Show on Saturday.
This creates an amazing race weekend for SAAC members and vintage race fans alike. The expansive facilities at Pocono will allow Shelby fans to have a great open track schedule, plenty of paddock area… and the added enjoyment of Vintage Racing with SVRA and a world class Indy Car event.
Open Track will run on the Sports Car Circuit, with an opportunity for all open-trackers to take a run on the big tri-oval track as well.
SAAC Concours Judging will be INDOORS at the Kalahari Resort, the convention’s host hotel. The regular exciting activities, such as Popular Vote Car Show and Swap Meet will all be held at Pocono Raceway.
